MotoConcepts Racing: ATLANTA 2 SX Report
SPOKANE, WA (February 28, 2015) – The second half of the Monster Energy Supercross Series returned to the Georgia Dome for the ninth round of the year. The Smartop MotoConcepts team stayed in frigid Atlanta, Georgia while riders Mike Alessi (#800/450) and Vince Friese (#45/250) were sent home to practice their weekly routines. Alessi focused on recuperating his knee strength and, after battling a flu-like sickness during the week, Friese came into the night feeling unprepared and exhausted.
Friese lined up on the ga te for the 250 Heat 1 and rocketed out with a Holeshot. After holding on to the lead for the first lap of the race, Friese would subject the position to A. Tonus. The six lap race settled Friese into a qualifying 5th position. The Main event was a different story when Friese came around the first corner in the 9th position. An exhausting Heat race and a lack of strength inhibited his ability to finish the night out strong. Crossing the finish line in 13th certainly wasn’t the results he was hoping for but still, he remains confident knowing there are more races to come.
After finishing 7th in the 450 Heat 2, Mike Alessi would line up for the 450 Semi 2. His initial jump off the gate wasn’t sufficient enough to grab his signature Holeshot and he would cross the finish line in 7th after the first lap. A determined Alessi fought to advance three more positions and finished the race in 4th. The Main event came up quickly and Alessi found himself with a less than decent gate pick. Unable to grab the start he needed, Alessi would dabble between 16th and 12th and fought off the likes of C. Seely, J. Hill and A. Short. When the checkered flag waved, he would find himself crossing the finish line in 14th.
